ISIS* is no longer in Syria, but there remains a problem with the non-recognition of this by our Western partners, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing on13 December.
She noted that the Russian military had accomplished its peacekeeping task brilliantly. Now there is a withdrawal from Syria of a significant part of the military grouping, but some of it will remain and will be ready to confront possible threats.
«This presence is legitimate, and is based on international law. This can not be said about some of our partners. There is a real problem: the active reluctance to recognize that ISIS * ceased to exist on Syrian soil. Syria, on the other hand, needs the widest international interaction,» the representative of the diplomatic mission said.
Zakharova added that she calls on UNESCO to become more involved in the restoration of historical monuments in Palmyra and Aleppo.
