It isn’t crucial for Russia with whom to work in the future: the current Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel or her rival in the upcoming elections Martin Schultz. The main thing is constructive interaction, Russian President Vladimir Putin told, answering the general director of DPA agency Peter Kropsha. The issue was raised on 1 June during a meeting with the heads of international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
«Angela and I have long been acquainted, working together. We have disagreements, but there are many points of contact, especially concerning questions of economic interaction. By the way, we have similar views in many aspects, including international politics too. But, I repeat, there are problems, to a possible solution of which we approach in different ways.
I almost do not know Mr. Schultz, but he is an experienced man too, he has long been in politics, in European politics, and in Germany, he recently returned to German politics. When I say «us», I mean the whole Russian team, we, in general, don’t pay so much attention with whom to work. The main thing is that these people are just like us, are committed to constructive interaction. We do not have any preferences here, «the Russian leader said.
He added that despite all the political and economic difficulties, the cooperation of the economies of the two countries continues all this time and this year showed a noticeable growth.
«Even despite the difficulties not only political but also economic: the decline in production in Russia, the decline in GDP, a certain reduction in real incomes of the population, and hence a decrease in demand — all still work. And we are trying to support them from the side of the state, and this constructive work is continuing, «Putin concluded.
