VTsIOM found out how much Russians are afraid of North Korea’s threats of using nuclear weapons.
81% of respondents are aware of the conflict on the Korean peninsula. The opinion on the reality of the threats was divided by a preponderance of those who do not believe in the reality of the threats — 43% and those who are inclined to believe that the DPRK authorities will have enough determination to use weapons — 39%.
Respondents see a real threat from the use of weapons of mass destruction rather from the USA (50%) and the al-Qaeda (32%) banned in Russia, rather than from Korea (13%).
39% of the respondents see the potential threat to the Russian national forces in the existing nuclear weapons and do not see 52%. In addition, according to the opinion of the survey participants, if the weapon is to be used, it is unlikely that it will be against the Russian Federation. The United States (51% of respondents), South Korea (33%) and Russia (3%) can be hit by a blow.
73% of respondents are sure that Russia’s role in the Korean conflict should be reduced to mediation at the talks. Another 19% said that our country should not interfere in the situation at all.
