The interest of Russian citizens in the FIFA World Cup grew after the victory of the national team over the team of Saudi Arabia.
According to the information of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion, initially the event was planned to be watched by 52% of the respondents, but after the victory of the national team this figure increased to 64%.
It is noted that 55% of respondents watched the Russia-Saudi Arabia match. At the same time, people of the older generation showed greater interest in the match (72%) than young people aged 18 to 24 (57%). 27% of the country called the opening ceremony of the championship colorful and spectacular. Another 12% said that the most memorable was the speech of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
The results of the survey showed that 58% of the population believed from the very beginning in the victory in the first match, and 17% hoped, but did not believe that the team would win. 10% of Russians did not count on the success of the players.
