The referendums, connected with the desire of the regional authorities to gain more autonomy, have ended in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto. Among those who voted, the position is almost unanimous — more independence. Head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov, who was familiar with the notion of «self-determination», congratulated his, as he put it, «Italian friends».
According to official data, in Lombardy 40% of the inhabitants gave their votes, 95% of whom chose greater autonomy, 57% of voters in Veneto and almost unanimously (98%) answered «yes» to the question of the referendum. However, so far this result only means that the issue will be considered at the state level, and not a statement of the final decision.
The Crimean politician made a congratulatory speech:
«I hope that this victory will promote the development of relations between the Crimea and the regions of Italy, further strengthening Russian-Italian cooperation, renouncing an unjust and destructive policy of sanctions,» Aksyonov wrote on his Facebook page.
He also congratulated adherents from Italy for the approval of the choice of the Crimean population and invited residents to visit the Crimean peninsula more often.
