Having conducted in the first days of April an all-Russian poll among 2000 respondents over the age of 18, VCIOM specialists found out that Easter is one of the three favorite holidays in our country. Moreover, the tradition of celebrating the Bright Resurrection of Christ is observed by the majority of Russians, despite the fact that only a quarter of citizens fast for.
31% of the poll participants named Easter as an important day for themselves. The percentage of women and followers of Orthodoxy is higher — by 39%. 30% of respondents named this holiday cultural and historical, and 25% — a family tradition. Every sixth (16%) refers to the Bright Christ’s Resurrection as a sacred rite.
Strong adherence to traditions. 59% of respondents assured that they will cook for the holiday cakes, Easter, paint eggs. 24% said they would consecrate food to the church. 39% are going to visit or they will take at home their loved ones. 12% prepared gifts on that day.
Seven percent of respondents intend to attend Vigil on Easter night.
Only 12% of all respondents, most of whom are young people aged 18-24 (28%), do not plan to celebrate Easter at all.
By the way, in 2018, the Great Lent was fully or partially observed by 20% of Russians. Of these, 40% regularly visit the Church and 35% do it periodically. 3% admitted that they fast only in the last — passionate week before Easter.
The overwhelming majority of survey participants (80%) recognize that nothing can stop them who want to fast.
