During the visit to Russia, the President of Croatia, Colinda Grabar-Kitarovic, met with the Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Sochi. In the course of communication, she expressed her hope that the Russian leader’s symmetrical response would follow.
The representative of the host country, Vladimir Putin, noted that there has been steady growth of trade turnover between the countries and there are promising directions for cooperation.
Grabar-Kitarovic started in turn by calling Putin to visit Croatia.
«Until now, no Russian President has paid an official visit to the Republic of Croatia, although in 2007 you visited the Republic of Croatia when you participated in the Energy Forum,» she reminded the interlocutor.
She expressed hope that today’s conversation will become a catalyst for a new round of Russian-Croatian relations.
Putin did not argue with this approach:
«Mrs. President, you have a very busy program of a visit to Russia. In addition to our meeting, another meeting with the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mr. Medvedev, then with Mrs. Matvienko — the speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, then another trip to St. Petersburg, as far as I know.
I am sure that such numerous contacts with people who are responsible in Russia for different directions, including not only foreign policy, but also the humanitarian sphere, the economy, certainly help making the development of bilateral relations», he said.
The Croatian leader supported this idea by added:
«I am especially pleased that I will take part in the opening of the Economic Forum, because a huge number of Croatian companies have responded to the invitation to participate in the Economic Forum, which reflects the interest in developing economic cooperation,» she concluded.
