Two-thirds of Russians (66%) are convinced that Russia should provide military support to Syrian President Bashar Assad. The poll data is published today by VCIOM.
It is noted that after the media reported on the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Duma, the conflict in the SAR is monitored by the absolute majority of compatriots — 88%. 39% of them closely monitor what is happening.
In February this year, only 17% of respondents shared the opinion that the situation in the region was deteriorating. Now 43% are saying this. Another 26% are convinced that the situation is normal, 19% are confident that it does not get any worse or better.
«In general, 39% of Russians support the current Russian policy in the Syrian conflict (growth from 34% in II.2018). In the opinion of every fifth (22%), it is necessary to slow down the action or choose a cautious stance. The number of supporters of more actions of our country in Syria (from 14% to 17%) has grown, and, on the contrary, the share of those who believe that Russia should absolutely refuse to participate in the conflict (9%) has decreased,» VCIOM experts explained.
Russians give positive (33%) and negative (30%) estimates of the consequences of our country’s participation in the events in the SAR. The greatest worry is the threat of an attack on Russia or even the outbreak of World War III (9%).
