At the 6th Moscow Conference on International Security Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed concern over the unilateral actions of NATO in the Euro-Atlantic area.
The diplomat explained that strengthening the strategic stability in the region is significantly hampered by the unilateral construction of the European sphere of the US global missile defense. Such actions introduce an imbalance in the sphere of offensive weapons.
Lavrov is sure that the «anti-missile umbrella» can strengthen the visibility of invulnerability and impunity and lead to the temptation to take unilateral steps to resolve both point and large-scale problems.
The negative effect on international security, in the opinion of the Russian minister, is providing all new developments of non-nuclear strategic weapons and hindrances to conclude a universal treaty that will not allow the deployment of weapons in outer space.
The growing number of questions is caused by the unwillingness of the United States and other countries to ratify the Treaty, which prescribes the full closure of any nuclear tests.
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that Moscow insists on creating an indivisible security zone. Indeed, such an initiative has already been supported by the OSCE summits and the Russia-NATO Council. Europe is also inclined to believe that security can only be achieved through cooperation with the Russian Federation.
